West Shore Junior to Present at the 2012 Junior Science, Engineering, and Humanities Symposium Speaker Competition

MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Michelle Chin, an 11th grader at West Shore JR/SR HS has been invited to present at the 2012 Junior Science, Engineering, and Humanities Symposium Speaker Competition at the University of Florida. She is one of 28 students selected from around the state. Michelle’s original science research project is entitled “A Quantitative Analysis of Phytoestrogen Content in Genetically Modified and Organic Legume Plants Year 2.” Michelle was awarded First Place in Plants at the Brevard County Regional Science Fair and Runner-up for Best in Show at the same fair for her research.

The Florida Junior Science, Engineering and Humanities Symposium (JSEHS) has been bringing Florida science teachers, high school students and select middle school students to UF since 1963. The JSEHS is designed to search out talented youth and help them develop their interests and abilities in science and provide recognition and prestige for students who demonstrate aptitude for scientific studies.  The selection process was highly competitive this year. UF Faculty, graduate students, practitioners, and educators all served on the Selection Committee.
