McNair Magnet School State KMO Champs

ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA – Congratulations to the McNair Fall Knowledge Master Open (KMO) Team, under the sponsorship of Carolyn Hutchins, for recently competing in the middle/junior division of the prestigious national computerized tournament!  McNair’s KMO Team scored 1401, which ranks the team first in the State of Florida for the second consecutive year.  The second place team scored 1339.

KMO is no mere trivia contest.  Two hundred challenging questions require higher level thinking skills and cover 14 curriculum areas specifically prepared for the event.  The questions in the competition are in multiple choice formats and are answered with the letters A, B, C, D, or E, and all questions must be completed within the designated two hour time window.

The tournament is run on a single computer with one keyboard.  Teams must answer questions on a wide variety of topics within a specific time range for the maximum points.  Quick thinking, clear communication and strategic elimination of incorrect answers played a key role in our team’s success.

As an arts magnet school, all Ronald McNair Middle Magnet School students are exposed to the arts in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Through music, art, drama, and technology teachers allow students to learn the way they learn best.
