Sunrise Elementary School and VSA

PALM BAY, FL—Brevard Public Schools and Very Special Arts (VSA) Florida is proud to announce the commencement of an artist residency at Sunrise Elementary School taught by visual artist Mary Rhodes Moon. For additional information regarding this specific residency or other artist residency programs please contact Marian Winters at (813) 974-0721 or mwinters@usf.edu.

The VSA Florida Artist in Residency Program fosters opportunities for all students, including those with disabilities, to successfully learn life skills through the arts. The arts are a profound tool for learning that enables students to share their beautiful voice of self expression and enhances capacity to fathom across cultural boundaries. VSA Florida encourages the arts as an outlet for communication, a means to unite students of all abilities and as a guide on the pathway to opportunities. Student production of art leads to a sense of self-accomplishment through creation and mastery. Through explaining their art, students become more fluent and imaginative at expressing their own creative ideas.

VSA Florida was founded in 1981 and is a member of the VSA, The international Organization on Arts and Disability, a program of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.  Based at the University of South Florida College of Education, VSA Florida provides arts, education, and cultural opportunities for and by people with disabilities through a network of program partners in every Florida County.
