5 Brevard Schools Honored for Health, PE, Recreation,
Dance and Sport Programs

VIERA, FLORIDA – Brevard Public Schools (BPS) is proud to announce that five schools will receive the 2011-2012 Program Recognition Award for their unique and innovative contributions to program development in health, physical education, recreation, dance and sport.  This honor from the Florida Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Dance and Sport (FAHPERDS) is given to the following schools:

  • Apollo Elementary – Physical Education Teacher: Randy Minnihan
  • Atlantis Elementary - Physical Education Teacher: Andy Hanson
  • Golfview Elementary Magnet - Physical Education Teacher: Mike Fitzpatrick
  • Westside Elementary - Physical Education Teachers: Beth McKinney and Greg Slentz
  • West Shore Jr./Sr. High – Physical Education Teachers: Bonnie Bettis, Greg Eller, Jason Whitworth, Nicole Anagnostis, and Stasia Burdett

In addition to the school program awards, two BPS employees will be receiving individual awards.  Lindsey Minnihan from Viera High was selected as Florida’s Health Teacher of the Year.  Valerie Harville, K-12 Resource Teacher, will be receiving two awards, the Don Knitt Service Award which is based on volunteer service, commitment and dedication to the mission and goals of FAHPERDS and the CODA Award which honors an exemplary educator in Physical Education, Health, Dance, Sport, College/University and District Administration.

Awards will be presented at the Southern District AAHPERD conference in Orlando on February 9, 2012 at the FAHPERDS Awards General Session and MARA Award Presentations starting at 5:00 p.m.
