Brevard Public Schools to Fly POW/MIA Flag

VIERA, FLORIDA – The Brevard County School Board is proud to announce that all public schools will be flying the POW/MIA Flag on the nationally recognized and observed POW/MIA day, September 16, 2011.  Flags were donated to every Brevard School by Rolling Thunder. The Rolling Thunder^Ò organization promotes awareness of POW’s and MIA’s and was incorporated in 1995.  They have over 90 chartered chapters throughout the United States.

In addition, the School Board made a request to have the United States Flag raised on national holidays when school is not in session. In response to this initiative, schools will solicit a staff volunteer and/or student volunteer to meet when school is closed to raise and lower the flag on Patriot’s Day, Memorial Day and Independence Day.  Student volunteers will be encouraged to invite their family, friends, scout troop and community to join them as they perform this memorable honor.
