BPS Data Show District 100 Percent Compliant with Class Size

VIERA, FLORIDA – Reports produced, utilizing a district software program, indicate that Brevard Public Schools (BPS) is 100 percent in compliance with the Class Size Amendment. The district’s program, which was adjusted to run class size reports to mirror those that the state will use in their calculation, indicates that BPS has met the class size requirements for its 72,906 students.

“The School Board commends principals, area offices, and individuals in many departments for their attention in meeting the voter mandated Class Size Amendment,” said Dr. Brian T. Binggeli, Superintendent. “Because of Brevard’s longstanding commitment to investing resources to reduce class size, we have been able to meet this state requirement for the last nine years.”

Associate Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, Cyndi Van Meter, Debra Pace, Associate Superintendent for Human Resources and the district’s area superintendents and coordinators worked in conjunction with the Office of Educational Technology, and the Division of Financial Services to monitor district numbers. Their focus was to address class size issues and minimize disruptions to schools, teachers and students.

Official class size reports will not be released by the Department of Education until sometime in November.  The Class Size Amendment limits enrollment in core classes. There can be no more than 18 students in each class in pre-kindergarten through third grade, no more than 22 in fourth through eighth grades, and no more than 25 in grades nine through 12.
