Brevard Community College- Melbourne Campus Helps with Christmas at Sherwood Elementary MELBOURNE, FLORIDA –Every year at this time, staff at Sherwood Elementary tries to help local families most in need. This year Susan Lamm-Merritt, instructor from Brevard Community College, asked if she and her students could help. Lamm-Merritt’s Teaching Diversity and Introduction to Education classes all volunteer at Sherwood as a part of their course. Ms. Wilson, Sherwood’s Principal, said she would appreciate the assistance because they were trying to help more families this year. Lamm-Merritt expanded her search for help to the entire faculty and student body at B.C.C. She delivered two truckloads full of toys, clothes, electronics and bicycles. Wilson said she was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from her staff, local churches, parents, and now B.C.C. Thirty-eight families received presents for the children and gift cards to local grocery stores.
