Saturn Elementary Receives Grant from Target for
“Let’s Make Some
Noise in the Library"

Cocoa, Florida — Saturn Elementary announced a partnership with Target in recognition of its efforts in reading promotion.  Target awarded Saturn Elementary’s Media Center with a $3,000 grant to “make some noise” in the library. This grant money will be used to purchase technology (IPods and Kindles) to enhance reading and learning opportunities in the Media Center. Students will be able to create movies, presentations, podcasts and more to share with fellow students, teachers and the community.

“Saturn is so excited to work with Target as we take reading and learning into the 21st century for our students”, said Media Specialist, Elizabeth Wareham. “This technology will give students the platform to create digital presentations and broadcasts that can be shared with families and the community with the push of a button. E-readers will give students a new opportunity to explore reading and learning in a digital format that appeals to everyone,” she explained.

This grant is part of ongoing efforts by Target to strengthen families and communities throughout the country. Since opening its doors, Target has given 5 percent of its income to organizations that support education, the arts, social services and volunteerism. Today that equals more than $3 million every week.

“At Target, our local grants are making a difference in the communities we serve,” said Laysha Ward, president, community relations, Target. “We’re proud to partner with [nonprofit organization] as part of our ongoing commitment to give back to the communities where our guests and team members live and work.”

Target School Library Makeovers provide year-round opportunities for Target team members to get involved with their local schools. The program combines the company’s commitment to education with its passion for volunteerism. Opportunities range from donating books and volunteering at local schools to extreme library makeovers utilizing the world-class design and construction expertise of the Target Property Development team. In 2010, Target team members will improve more than 1,700 K-12 school libraries across the country.
